If you have a situation in which you will be sending multiple channels of MIDI into Cubase via one MIDI Port, and want the individual MIDI tracks in Cubase to determine the incoming MIDI channel, you will need to use the Input Transformer.

To use the Input Transformer follow these steps:

1. Create your MIDI tracks and assign the correct Input Port you will be receiving MIDI from and the MIDI channel that will be played. You will also need to set your outputs as well. In this example three MIDI tracks are assigned to Chs. 1, 2, & 3.

2. Once you have set the correct input/output Ports and Channels click the Input Transformer button located in the inspector view.

3 Clicking this button opens the Input Transformer window and lets you set up filtering parameters. First, click on the Add Line button to view the parameters you can set.

4. You will need to set the Filter Target to Channel. The setting for the Condition will be Unequal and the setting for Parameter 1 will be the same as the MIDI channel the current track is set to. In this example you can see MIDI 01 and the MIDI channel is set to MIDI Channel 1 so you want to filter all Channels ‘not equal’ to this.

5. Once you have set these parameters you will then need to have the Selected and Active Module assigned. You can set both of these to 1. Set the mode to Filter as well.

6. You should now be able to play, record, and monitor only the MIDI Channel assigned to the given MIDI track. You will need to set this up on each MIDI track, and make sure to change the Parameter 1 value to correspond to the MIDI Channel assigned to the MIDI track.
