Tutorial:  Using Garritan Personal Orchestra with Sibelius
1) Start GPO Studio (Very Important -- this file must be opened first!

2) Start Sibelius
3) Select "New" to create a new score

4) Insert whatever Manuscript Paper or instruments you wish.  In this example, I've selected "Orchestra, Classical"; however, feel
free to choose whatever you want.

5) Leave the House Style set at "Unchanged" and the Main text font set at "Times New Roman" (this really has nothing to do with
setting up a GPO file and you can change the House Style or Main text font to anything with no repercussion).
6) Set the Time Signature and Tempo to your liking (in this example, I've set my Time Signature to 4/4 time).
7) Select which Key Signature you wish to use.
8) Input the Title of the piece, your name and year of copyright.  Click "Finish" and Sibelius will create your new score!
9) Now, we need to set up Sibelius so that it knows not to use Kontakt player and to use GPO instead. (An interesting side-note --
one can actually play midi GM sounds, Kontakt sounds and GPO sounds all at the same time in Sibelius!  As for this tutorial, lets just
pretend we want to hear the beautiful sounds of GPO!)
c) Press "OK" to confirm these new changes.
b) There should be eight GPO Studio devices listed.  In the "Use" column, select each "no" so that it becomes a "yes".

10) We've made it to the fun part!  Go back to the GPO Studio program and select "Player 1"
11) Click on the first box in the Virtual Rack and load in whatever instrument you want.  As a rule of thumb, I like to correlate each
instrument box in the Virtual Rack with where the instrument would be located according to the rules of score order.  By placing
my, say, woodwind section in player 1, brass section in player 2, any percussion in player 3 and string section in player 4; I am able
to remember more easily where each instrument was placed for the next step...

12) Return to Sibelius and press "M" to open the Mixer Window (or click on Window > Mixer).
a) For some reason, my mixer sometimes isn't wide enough to show all the instruments in the score.  This problem is
easily remedied by dragging the right or left edge of the mixer to open it up more.
b) Ignore the slot labelled "Click" and the first instrument we want to modify is "Flute".
c) Select "Flute", change the Device (on the upper right hand side of the mixer window) to the proper GPO Studio (the
number of the player is the number of the studio... so my Flute sound was loaded into player 1 in GPO Studio, therefore I
select "GPO Studio: 1".  Player 2 would be "GPO Studio: 2" and so on and so forth)

13) Now that everything is set up to use the correct instruments, one last element of realism is to set up reverb.  Sibelius' reverb will
not work with GPO, so instead we use Garritan's reverb.  To do this, select the "Ambience" button in GPO Studio, load in a setting,
or tweak the buttons until the reverb is to your liking!

14) Dynamics in the score cannot be be written with normal expressions.  This is because GPO uses Mod Wheel changes to create
differences in dynamic levels.  This is easily implemented in Sibelius with the following technique:
a) Select View > Hidden Objects
b) Select the first note for dynamics to be added and either go to Create > Text > Expression or simply press ctrl+e
c) add in the dynamic level (ppp through fff) and then immediately type ~C1,### where the ### is a number between 0
and 127.  0 would be the quietest and 127 would be the maximum volume.  If this is done correctly, after pressing enter
the dynamic will be bold and italicized while the ~C1,### will be greyed out.

One last note:  Using GPO with Sibelius disables the "Save to Audio" function of Sibelius (Sibelius will only record Kontakt
instruments with this feature).  No need to worry, however, because the brilliant people over at Garritan have included an option in
GPO Studio that does the same thing!  Just click Record > Record to File and select a file name.  Once that application begins, press
"Play" in Sibelius and you have now just saved your music as a WAV file.
For reference purposes, I have included the following files which are used in this tutorial:

CrossHares.gpo -- GPO Studio file with instruments set up

CrossHares.sib -- Sibelius file with the mixer already configured for GPO playback

Kit_Score.mp3 -- mp3 version of the final product produced with GPO and Sibelius

Sibelius/GPO
a) The first thing we need to do is click on Play > Devices...  No changes are needed to be made to Input Devices, however
on the Playback Devices we need to let GPO Studio be heard.
d) The last setting we need to modify is the Channel.  Whatever MIDI channel the instrument in GPO studio is set to use
will be the number that should show here (the MIDI channel is the box right below where it says "CPU USAGE:" in the
player menu in GPO Studio.  There is a circle with dots next to that number)
e) Notice that in this example, there is also a Tuba.  Adding instruments later in the process is very easy.  Just press "I" to
add the instrument into the Sibelius score, go into GPO studio to add whatever instrument into whatever player/slot you
wish, and finally set it up in the Mixer with the method previously outlined.
